First Hike a Success!

posted Sep 15, 2013, 9:26 PM by Scout Westview
This past Saturday morning saw three returning Scouts, two new Scouts, and one prospective Scout tackle the paths around Buffalo Bayou, dodging joggers and cyclists all while enjoying the environment and getting to know each other.  The only hiccup involved the gate to Glenwood Cemetery being locked, necessitating a change to the hike route, though it does give us the opportunity for a future hike through both Glenwood and Washington Cemeteries, led by our Assistant Scoutmaster Mark Davidson.  Some of our Scouts suggested that this be an evening hike, so looking at possibilities for end October/early November.

Remember everyone that our Troop meeting is this Tuesday, September 17th, at The Westview School at 6:30PM.  The Scouts will use this time to get to know each other, with the returning Scouts taking the opportunity to teach new Scouts some Scouting skills necessary for the Scout badge, such as tying a square knot and knowing the Scout oath, law, motto, and slogan.  We will also use the time to go over the activity calendar for the rest of the year, firming up additional camping and day trip dates.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
